Abstract
The issue of waste accumulation in Muntai Village, situated in the Bantan Subdistrict of Bengkalis Regency, has drawn considerable attention. The accumulating waste in the area predominantly comprises coconut husks. As a viable solution, the transformation of this waste into cocopeat and cocofiber has been adopted. This research aims to analyze the outcomes of processing coconut husks at various machine rotation speeds during the decomposition process, with the objective of obtaining optimal cocopeat quality. The employed husk-decaying apparatus possesses dimensions of 197 cm x 197 cm x 146 cm, driven by a 13 HP diesel engine, and has a processing capacity of 118 kg/hour, equipped with 33 striking blades. Experiments were conducted to assess the impact of different machine rotation speeds on cocopeat output. Rotation speed variations tested included 1000 rpm, 1400 rpm, 1600 rpm, 1800 rpm, and 2000 rpm. The experimental results revealed that an effective measurement of machine rotation speed could be accomplished using a tachometer. A rotation speed of 2000 rpm yielded a cocopeat output of 55.2 kg/hour, indicating the highest capacity production with an exceptionally optimal cocopeat quality. Fine powder particles contribute to a superior structural composition when utilized as a growing medium. Additionally, uniform particle sizing facilitates versatile application across various sectors. These findings suggest that employing higher machine rotation speeds, such as 2000 rpm, generates cocopeat with optimal production capacity and excellent quality. This underscores the potential of cocopeat usage across diverse applications, particularly as a growth medium with a conducive plant-supporting structure.
