Abstract

As time goes by, various types of machines have been developed, ranging from simple ones to machines that use modern technology. In testing a material that will be used, a test tool is needed, therefore an impact test tool is needed. According to Dieter, George E (1988), the impact test is used to determine the tendency of a material to be brittle or ductile based on its toughness properties. There are 2 standards for this impact test, namely the Charpy method impact test and the Izod method. The charpy method is widely used in the United States, while the izod method is more frequently used in most of Europe. The Charpy method test rod has specifications, cross-sectional area, V-shaped notch. The impact test loading process in the Charpy method and Izod method is at an angle of 45°. The Charpy test rod is then placed horizontally on the supporting rod and is suddenly loaded behind the notch side by a pendulum. swinging weight, notch depth 2 mm. These two methods also have differences in the loading process. So the results obtained by using the impact design tool using the Chrapy method are 15 joules. So the results obtained by using the impact design tool using the Izod method are 15 joules. The design of the impact test tool using the Charpy and Izod methods has dimensions of 100 cm x 50 cm x 80 cm. Results from From calibration, it was found that the Charpy method impact test equipment that the author designed was 70 joules. The results of testing using the izod method were 77 joules so the difference between charpy and izod was 7 joules.
