Abstract

Wood is a type of material that is often used for daily needs. There are various types of wood that can be used, one of which is the use of wood in the form of firewood. The need for the use of firewood in the Dumai area is still very necessary. Usually firewood is used for kitchen needs at wedding parties which use boiling or burning processes and the Dumai people generally split wood manually. From this problem, there is the problem of the length of time it takes to split wood manually. Based on these problems, a wood splitting machine was designed with a maximum length of 40 cm. The transmission system used is a pulley and belt transmission. The required belt length 38.3 inches (A36). Meanwhile, the belt rotation speed is 51.28 m/s and the chain rotation speed is 17.5 m/s. The working capacity of the Wood Splitting Tool can be determined after getting the average results of wood splitting using 3 tests, then the splitting results can be determined using rubber tree wood with a diameter of 90 mm with a splitting time of 10 seconds.
