Abstract

This research was conducted to overcome the problems faced by millennial farmer groups, who need quality planting media for chili cultivation on peatlands. Peat soil has a weakness in storing water, so additional media such as cocopeat is needed. However, the millennial farmer group does not yet have a machine to process coconut fiber into cocopeat, even though coconut fiber is abundant in the area. As a solution, a coconut fiber decomposing machine with a capacity of 80 kg/hour was designed and made using a diesel motor and a zig-zag model decomposing eye, and equipped with two output hoppers to separate cocopeat and cocofiber. The methods used include design, design, fabrication process consisting of machining and welding, and tool testing. The test results showed that from 80 kg of coconut fiber processed, 33 kg of cocopeat and 43 kg of cocofiber were obtained in one hour, consuming 3.3 liters of diesel oil.
