Abstract
Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world, being the largest archipelagic country in the world, the security of the shipping system in Indonesian waters is a major concern. Ships or facilities are very important for various inter-island transportation, especially in Indonesia, which is an archipelagic country. The safety of the shipping process must be considered so that life-threatening accidents do not occur and do not damage the marine ecosystem. Therefore, a navigation aid is needed to assist the ship in navigation. These navigation aids leave ships at sea and land. The navigation aid serves to inform the ship's captain about the situation around and as the boundary of the water area. Navigation assistance is administered by the Navigation District. Navigation District plays an important role in maintaining and repairing navigation aids. Maintenance of navigation aids is necessary to keep navigation aids in good condition. Repair of navigation aids is also very important because navigation aids can be damaged at any time by waves, wind, lightning, etc. Faulty navigation aids resulted in a fatal and very dangerous voyage. The purpose of this study was to determine the maintenance and repair of navigation aids belonging to Class I Navigation in Dumai District in order to improve shipping safety. Methods of data collection using literature study, observation, and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the maintenance and repair of navigation aids belonging to Class I Navigasi Dumai District is very optimal and important in order to improve shipping safety.
