Abstract

At the end of 2023 and early 2024, several areas in Riau Province experienced significant flooding, with impacts covering Bengkalis Regency, especially on Bengkalis Island, Jalan Panglima Minal, Air Putih Village. This flooding phenomenon is not only influenced by high rainfall, but also by sea tides. In dealing with this condition, it is important to carry out an in-depth inspection of the drainage system in the area. This research aims to evaluate the condition of the drainage system with a focus on visual damage, the presence of wild plants, accumulation of sediment and rubbish that can hinder drainage function. The research methods used include quantitative methods through cross section measurements and visual observations to ensure that the drainage channels function properly, can handle incoming water flows, and operate in accordance with established standards and requirements. The results of the research show that drainage channels can function well if recommended maintenance is carried out on various problems affecting drainage effectiveness. To overcome this problem, routine and periodic maintenance of the drainage is required.
