Abstract

Friction welding is a welding method using heat energy formed from friction between two material surfaces or moving tool blades. The parameters of friction welding include the rotation speed in the friction process, the time during welding, and the pressure applied during friction. This research was conducted to find out how the quality of the results of friction welding joints through tensile tests and Brinell hardness. The rotation speed used was 1366 rpm, the welding time used was 90 seconds, 110 seconds, and 120 seconds. The specimen used in this study is a 6061 aluminum round bar with a diameter of 16 mm and a length of 150 mm. The Tensile Test is used to determine how the tensile strength of the material resulting from the friction welding connection. The highest tensile strength value of the friction welding connection results is found in the 120 second time variation of 72.124 N/mm². For the lowest tensile strength value obtained from the 90 second speed friction welding connection with a tensile strength value of 28.972 N/mm². Based on the results of brinell hardness testing with different time variations, the best hardness value is at the base metal in the 90 second time variation with a hardness value of 69.76 HB.
