Abstract

Clean water is a vital necessity for every human being as well as for other living creatures. Clean water is water that has been filtered from its original turbid state to become clear. The objective of this thesis research is to design a conventional water filtration system that can clarify turbid water into clear water. This water filtration system also applies logic on a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The logic applied here involves the implementation of the OR logic gate. The OR logic gate in this research functions such that when push button NO 1 is pressed, it will activate water pump 1, and if push button NO 4 is pressed, it will also activate water pump 1, thereby channeling water from the dug well water tank to the mixer tank. In the mixer tank, water is mixed with chlorine. The system operation of the OR logic gate can be reset using the NC push button. To proceed with the next process on this device, push button NO 2 is pressed to activate water pump 2, which channels water from the mixer tank to the sedimentation tank. To turn off water pump 2, the NC push button is pressed. In the sedimentation tank, the water is left to settle for 4 hours to ensure the chlorine is thoroughly mixed. After the settling process in the sedimentation tank, push button NO 3 is pressed to channel the water to filtration tank 1, which will then filter directly to filtration tank 2 and finally into the final storage tank. The final storage tank is where the filtered clean water is collected, transforming the initially turbid water from the dug well tank into clear water in the final tank.
