Abstract
Depression is a mental disorder related to a person's mood which is characterized by feelings of sadness and anxiety. The level of depression in final semester students tends to increase compared to when they were in the first semester. Depression in final semester students can be caused by various factors, such as college problems, family problems and social environmental factors. Starting from stress that is not overcome, a person can experience depression even to the level of acute depression. Many are not aware of the dangers of depression and find it difficult to overcome depression early on. This study aims to build an expert system that will be used to detect symptoms of depression as early as possible to assist a student in diagnosing depression using the Certainty Factor method. The Certainty Factor method is a method that defines the size of the certainty of a fact or rule. This system will also be built based on a website, which will be implemented using the PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) programming language and MySQL database as well as applying the RAD (Rapid Application Development) method in developing the system. On systems that have been produced, testing the System Usability Scale for the feasibility of the system gain value above the average in the category of good value 69,5.
