Abstract

Research on the design of a flat current power plant has been carried out using a Gorlov turbine. This study aims to develop a gorlov type flat flow water turbine by utilizing river currents or irrigation canals. The water turbine functions to convert water energy into mechanical energy in the form of a shaft rotation. The mechanical energy is then converted into electrical energy using a generator. The design of this flat-flow water turbine refers to the helical turbine that has been developed, namely the Gorlov Turbine which utilizes tidal currents as a source of energy to drive the Runnner turbine. The Gorlov turbine that has been developed uses a blade profile in the form of a NACA 0020 symmetric hydrofoil that works based on the lift force. The gorlov turbine to be made has a total height of 50cm and a width of 50 cm made of ST 42 steel; blade/blade with NACA 0020 profile, chord length 0.165 m, height 40 cm and diameter 45 cm made of 3 pieces of iron plate. The other main component is the axle which functions as the shaft of the blade which is connected by the spokes. The axle components are made of ST 42 steel with a diameter of 10 inches and a length of 50 cm. From the calculations made, the power that will be generated later by the turbine is 5 Watt.
