Abstract

Structurally, concrete does not have a large enough strength, especially in withstanding the shear forces due to flexing, so it needs bending looping and shear repeating, which serves to carry the load of concrete blocks. Due to large loadings, it requires considerable dimensions, but these large dimensions have limitations. It is characterized by the distance between the beams on that bridge that is too close, so that the bridge requires beams that have greater strength. To increase the capacity of the beam, this study tried to add mild steel as a shear provider in the hope that there would be an increase in shear capacity with the specified dimensions. As it is known that mild steel has a tensile strength that is almost equal to the tensile strength of steel. The melting stress of mild steel reaches 542.8 Mpa and the maximum voltage reaches 544.01 Mpa. Shear testing is carried out by applying a one-point load to the center of the beam span with a fulcrum distance of 0.60 m. beam test objects are made with a size of 0.15 x 0.25 x 0.86 m and mild steel is made a zinc model with a size of 5 x 20 x 0.7 mm on the reinforcement of the beam. The results of research and analysis using mild steel there is an increase in the capacity of the shear load that can be held by the beam. The maximum load of the control beam is 262 kN with a deflection of 6.87 mm while its maximum load sliding beam is 292 kN and the deflection is 9.3 mm. thus, the load capacity increased by 13.74% and the deflection that occurred in the sliding beam was 31% greater than the control beam.
