Abstract
Many reinforced concrete buildings experience a decrease in structural strength, in general the decline in the function of this building is caused by errors in construction such as problems that often arise in bridge beams due to continuous loading. To increase the flexural capacity of the beam on the bridge, we tried to use mild steel. As is known mild steel has a tensile strength that is almost the same as the tensile strength of stell. The yield stress of mild steel reaches 542,8 MPa and maximum stress reaches 544,01 MPa (Sherly A.R, and Donny. F.R, 2015). This study aims to determine the increase in the maximum load value that occurs in the beam which is added with mild steel as flexural reinforcement and also to determine the cracks that occur based on the type of failure in the beam. Flexural testing is carried out by providing a single point load in the middle of the beam span with a distance between supports of 1,2 m. The beam test object was made with a size of 0,15 x 0,25 x 1,35 m and mild stell made a plate model with a size of 2 x 50 x 0,7 mm in the tensile part of the beam. The results of research and analysis using mild steel showed an increase in the load capcity that the beam can with stand. The maximum load of the control beam is 57 kN with a deflection of 22,8 mm while the maximum load of the flexural beam is 80 kN with a deflection of 7,98 mm. Thus, the load capacity increases by 40,35% and the deflection that occurs in the bending beam is 1,85 times smaller than the control beam.
