Abstract

Earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) is an electrical component that functions to detect leakage currents in high-impedance electrical installations. The manufacture of this test equipment is to determine the value of the grounding resistance installed on the test equipment as expected and as a learning module for students. The components used for the design of this test instrument are the Schneider Electric type DOM11028 earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) with a current sensitivity of 30 mA, and several other companion components, namely a 1-phase MCB which is used as a switch, to see when the ELCB trips by long pressing the push button. button to see ELCB trip or not trip. Variations in the value of the earth resistance 8 Ω, 5 Ω, 3 Ω. affect the ELCB working system because the smaller the earth (PE) the ELCB works (trips) even though the short circuit current is still below 30 mA (Normal ELCB). Good and safe sensitivity for humans is found at 45 mA interference with an Rf value of 5 and varying ground resistance of 8 Ω, 5 Ω, 3 Ω.
