Abstract

The turning process is one of the machining processes that can be found in the manufacturing industry. And there are many variables that influence the turning process, one of which is spindle speed and feeding depth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of spindle speed, feeding depth on chisel vibrations and surface roundness of conventional lathe processes. The research method used was experimental, in which this study varied the spindle speed (190 Rpm, 300 Rpm and 755 Rpm) and the feeding depth (0.2 mm, 0.5 mm and 1 mm). From the results of this test, it was found that low tool vibration at spindle speed of 190 Rpm and feeding depth of 0.2 mm for a good surface roundness was obtained at a spindle rotating speed of 755 Rpm with a feeding depth of 0.2 mm. While the highest vibration was at the spindle rotating speed of 755 Rpm with a feeding depth of 1 mm and the highest level of surface roundness was at a spindle rotating speed of 190 Rpm with a feeding depth of 1 mm. So in this study it can be concluded that the effect of the roundness level of the surface is in the vibration with a spindle speed of 755 Rpm and a depth of cut of 0.2 mm.
