Abstract

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a new welding process with a low production cost and a good quality connection. Welding using friction stir welding method is connecting by metals utilizing the heat caused by friction between the material of the work piece and pin. In the FSW process, a rotating tool is emphasized on the material that will be united. Friction cylindrical-shoulder tool with pin / probe with material, resulting in local heating that can attemper the section. This study will analyze the mechanical properties of the welding results with 969 rpm engine speed, 1543 rpm and 3070 rpm. The results show that there is a difference in the hardness of the three variations of the tool rotation. In lap 1543 rpm there was a significant decrease in the welded area compared to the main material of 11.6 HRc, but at 3070 rpm has the highest hardness value in the weld area reaching 72.6 HRc compared to HAZ and base metal. The greater the rotation of the given tool will cause the stirring process that occurs between the tool and the specimen will be more and more causing high hardness value. Good voltage and strain values are at 969 rpm (87,635 N / mm2 ; 20%).While the lowest voltage value occured at 1543 rpm round 42,627 N/mm2 , and the lowest strain at 3070 rpm rotation of 12,9%
