Abstract

In Indonesia, the production of waste from coal combustion increases year by year in proportion to the consumption of coal. This process produces solid waste in the form of bottom ash and fly ash, known as FABA. FABA can be utilised as a replacement for fine aggregate and cement in concrete mixes. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of using fly ash as a substitute for cement and bottom ash as a partial replacement for sand on the compressive strength of concrete that has a quality of 20 MPa, treated with fresh and sea water. By using the concrete mix design based on SNI 03-2843-2000 for 20 MPa quality concrete, the results showed that using fly ash as a substitute for cement and bottom ash as a partial replacement for sand decreased the compressive strength of 20 MPa quality concrete at the age of 7-28 days. with fresh water treatment and increased at 56 days of age with fresh water treatment. Then, the use of fly ash as a substitute for cement and bottom ash as a partial replacement for sand decreased at 7 days of age for concrete compressive strength of 20 MPa quality with fresh water treatment and at 28-56 days for BA 30% increased while BA 30% + FA 12.5% decreased.
