Abstract
Traditional Fishing Boats Used By Fishermen In Bantan Village, Sungai Liong Are Generally Made Of Wood With A Length Of 5 Meters And A Width Of 1.2 Meters. These Boats Were Originally Propelled Manually Using Paddles, Which Limited Their Travel Distance, Speed, And Efficiency In Shrimp And Fish Harvesting Activities. The Propulsion System Is A Crucial Component That Determines The Thrust And Overall Performance Of A Boat. Previous Studies Have Shown That Mechanization Through The Use Of Engines Can Significantly Improve Fishing Efficiency.This Study Examines The Modification Of A 6 Hp Robin Engine, Which Was Originally Designed For Land Based Applications, Into An Outboard Motor To Power The Boat. The Modification Involves Adding A Transmission System Consisting Of A Chain And Gear That Connects The Engine’s Rotation To The Propeller Shaft, Thereby Generating Optimal Thrust For The Propeller. The Use Of The Robin Engine Is Motivated By The Shallow And Muddy Conditions Of Sungai Liong, As Well As The Economic Limitations Of Local Fishermen Who Cannot Afford Factory-Made Outboard Motors, Which Are Expensive, Costly To Maintain, And Have Limited Spare Parts Availability. The Robin Engine Is Considered More Affordable, Fuel-Efficient, Easy To Maintain, And Has Widely Available Spare Parts.Therefore, This Modification Is Expected To Serve As An Appropriate And Effective Solution To Enhance The Productivity Of Fishermen In Sungai Liong In A Practical And Economical Manner.
