Abstract

Waste management in Bengkalis Regency still faces operational challenges, particularly in the effectiveness of waste collection services from customer locations. Until now, collection officers have determined travel routes manually based on subjective estimation, which often leads to inefficient routes, longer travel time, and higher fuel consumption. This study aims to design a dynamic automatic route-determination system by integrating the A* (A-Star) algorithm with the Generate and Test method. The Generate and Test method is used to produce and validate the sequence of customer locations to be visited, while the A* algorithm functions to calculate the shortest paths between coordinate points using a heuristic approach. In the testing phase, the system generated the route S-A-C-D-E-B-F-H-G with a total travel distance of approximately 3.25 km. This result demonstrates that the algorithm is able to reduce travel distance while arranging the visit sequence more systematically. In addition, the system is capable of displaying real-time route visualization and providing navigation guidance that assists field operators. Overall, the application is able to support the improvement of waste collection service quality and reduce operational costs of the waste bank through efficient transportation routes.
