Abstract

Code quality is an essential aspect of software development as it affects readability, efficiency, and system maintainability. In the Laravel-based Salon Bliss application, several code smells were identified, including tight coupling, duplicate code, long methods, and complex conditionals, which potentially reduce code structure quality and complicate further development. This study aims to apply Clean Code principles through a smells and heuristics approach in the refactoring process without altering the application’s functionality. Problem identification was conducted manually based on Robert C. Martin’s Clean Code principles. Each finding was analyzed and mapped to appropriate heuristics before improvements were implemented, including dependency injection, separation of responsibilities, and simplification of conditional structures. The results show that refactoring successfully reduces code smells, decreases inter-component dependencies, and improves modularity and readability, resulting in a more structured and maintainable application.
