Abstract

Monitoring heart rate and body temperature is an important aspect of maintaining a person’s health condition. Currently, the monitoring process is still largely carried out manually and not continuously, which may lead to delays in handling abnormal health conditions. Therefore, this final project focuses on the design and development of a heart rate and body temperature monitoring device with a wireless connectivity system. The designed device uses an ECG AD8232 sensor to detect heart rate signals and a DS18B20 sensor to measure body temperature. Both sensors are connected to an ESP32 microcontroller, which functions as a data processor as well as a wireless data transmitter. The measurement data are then received by a receiving unit and displayed on a TFT-LCD in the form of ECG signal graphs, heart rate values in beats per minute (BPM), and body temperature readings. In addition, the system is equipped with a buzzer as a warning indicator when the heart rate or body temperature values exceed normal limits. Based on the test results, the difference in heart rate measurements compared to a fingertip oximeter ranged from 2-5 BPM under normal conditions and 1-5 BPM after physical activity, with an average heart rate measurement error of 17.09 %. Meanwhile, testing of the DS18B20 temperature sensor showed more stable results, with a measurement difference of 0.5-1.1°C compared to a digital thermometer and an average error of 2.52 %. Wireless connectivity testing showed that the system was able to transmit data up to a distance of 75 meters in open areas and 25 meters in enclosed spaces. These results indicate that the designed device can be used as a wireless based heart rate and body temperature monitoring system.
