Abstract

This research aims to design and implement a monitoring system for single-phase electric motors based on a Human Machine Interface (HMI) using a Mitsubishi FX5U PLC and an Arduino Uno microcontroller. The system integrates GX Works3, GT Designer3, and GT SoftGOT2000 software to monitor motor performance in real-time. The PLC serves as the main controller for start/stop operations via a relay and reads the motor’s rotational speed (RPM) through a rotary encoder sensor, which is converted using a frequency to voltage module. Meanwhile, the Arduino Uno is utilized to acquire electrical data from the PZEM-004T sensor, which is then displayed on a 20x4 LCD. The hardware components (PLC, Arduino, PZEM-004T, and Rotary Encoder) were successfully integrated with the software, ensuring the monitoring system functions as intended. Testing results indicate that the integrated system operates effectively, with the PZEM-004T sensor demonstrating high accuracy, showing an average error of 0.59% for voltage and 0.61% for power. Although the RPM reading showed an error margin of 4.94% requiring further calibration, the system overall successfully provides an informative monitoring interface and effective machine control for small-scale industrial needs and laboratory practical applications.
