Abstract
Concrete is a construction material widely used in rigid pavements due to its high strength. One method to enhance concrete quality is by using Type F admixtures, such as Sika ViscoCrete 8015 and Ligno C310 S. This study aims to determine the flexural strength of FS 4.5 MPa concrete and compare the effects of using these two admixtures. An experimental laboratory method was employed, utilizing beam specimens for flexural strength testing and cylinder specimens for compressive strength testing. The mixture variations included normal concrete and concrete with the addition of Sika ViscoCrete 8015 (0.3% by weight of cement) and Ligno C310 S (0.3% by weight of cement). Testing was conducted at 3 and 28 days of age. The results indicate that at 3 days, concrete with Sika ViscoCrete 8015 achieved an average flexural strength of 4.44 MPa, which was higher than that of concrete with Ligno C310 S (3.76 MPa). At 28 days, concrete with Sika ViscoCrete 8015 yielded an average flexural strength of 5.99 MPa, whereas concrete with Ligno C310 S yielded 4.76 MPa. Compressive strength test results showed a similar trend, with Sika ViscoCrete 8015 producing higher compressive strength than Ligno C310 S at both 3 and 28 days. Consequently, the use of Sika ViscoCrete 8015 is more effective than Ligno C310 S in enhancing the flexural and compressive strength of FS 4.5 MPa concrete, making it a viable alternative admixture for rigid pavement construction.
