Abstract
Ports play a strategic role in the smooth flow of goods, including alumina as the main raw material for the aluminum industry. PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum, through its facilities at Kuala Tanjung Port, plays a crucial role in alumina unloading activities, but still faces obstacles such as limited equipment, ship waiting times, weather, and operational coordination. This study aims to determine the conditions of alumina unloading, obstacles to alumina unloading, and efforts to ensure smooth and efficient handling of alumina unloading at the Port of PT Inalum Kuala Tanjung. The method used in this study is a qualitative method. Data collection techniques include interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the alumina unloading process includes ship preparation, unloading using a ship unloader or grab crane, material transfer via conveyor belt, hatch cleaning, and recording of loading and unloading results. In its implementation, several obstacles are encountered, such as equipment damage, unfavorable weather conditions, and delays in ship arrivals, which have an impact on decreasing productivity and increasing operational time. Efforts made to overcome these obstacles include routine equipment maintenance, workforce training, increased coordination between related parties, utilization of weather information, ship schedule arrangements, and periodic evaluation of loading and unloading activities.
