Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structural response of the deck structure of Pasifik Sun 3 Barge due to a change in cargo from coal to containers using the Finite Element Method (FEM) on Frames 20–25. Coal cargo was modeled as a uniformly distributed load of 31.392 kN/m², while container cargo was modeled as a concentrated load of 110.36 kN at each support point. The results show that the maximum von Mises stress and deformation for coal cargo were 162.97 MPa and 0.60063 mm, respectively, while container cargo produced 231.12 MPa and 0.51307 mm. Both conditions remained within the allowable stress limit of 250 MPa. However, container cargo produced higher stress, indicating greater local stress concentration and a more critical structural response of the deck.
