Abstract

This study was conducted in June 2026 at the Air Putih Pier in Bengkalis Regency, focusing on the Roro vessel KMP Mutiara Pertiwi 2, which operates on the Air Putih–Sungai Selari crossing route. The study aimed to utilize Automatic Identification System (AIS) data to analyze movement patterns and determine the vessel's safe speed during the berthing process. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, processing Ais data recorded directly at the site. Data points with irregular time intervals were refined using linear interpolation, and the vessel's distance to the pier was calculated using the Haversine formula. The results reveal a consistent relationship between the vessel's distance and its speed; as the vessel approached the pier, its speed was reduced in a gradual and controlled manner. This demonstrates that the use of Ais data can transform observation practices—shifting from reliance on experience alone to a data-driven approach—thereby enhancing vessel control, safety, and the efficiency of the Roro vessel berthing process at the Air Putih Pier in Bengkalis
