Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utilization of the echosounder in supporting navigation safety on board TB. Mora 03. The study focuses on the implementation of the echosounder as a navigational aid for measuring water depth from human, technical, and operational aspects. It also examines the obstacles encountered during its operation and the efforts undertaken to optimize its utilization in supporting navigation safety. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The study was conducted from May to June 2026 on board TB. Mora 03. The results indicate that the utilization of the echosounder on board TB. Mora 03 has been implemented adequately as a navigational aid for monitoring water depth during vessel operations. However, several obstacles were identified, including limited crew competence in operating and interpreting echosounder data, reduced reading accuracy caused by transducer and water conditions, electrical system disturbances, and inadequate monitoring during navigation. To address these obstacles, optimization efforts were carried out through improving crew competence, conducting regular equipment maintenance, strengthening supervision of echosounder utilization, and integrating the echosounder with other navigational equipment. The implementation of these efforts contributes to improving the effectiveness of echosounder utilization in supporting navigation safety.
