Abstract

Peat and clay soils possess low bearing capacity and are prone to settlement under loading. This study aimed to analyze the effect of embedment duration on the bearing capacity and settlement of piles, and to compare the performance of plain mini concrete piles versus mangrove piles. Experimental testing was conducted at a depth of 2 meters, with embedment durations of 1, 7, 14, and 28 days, using the Static Loading Test (SLT) method. Test results indicated that at 28 days, concrete piles in clay soil could withstand a load of up to 660 kg with a settlement of 3.67 cm before failure occurred at 680 kg. In peat soil, concrete piles supported loads up to 360 kg with a settlement of 4.12 cm before failing at 380 kg, whereas mangrove piles failed at a load of 180 kg. The findings demonstrate that embedment duration and material type influence bearing capacity and pile settlement. Plain mini concrete piles exhibited superior performance compared to mangrove piles and are more suitable for construction projects requiring high bearing capacity
