Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of changing the stanchion dimension from 250 mm to 200 mm on the structural strength of the Oceania 330 Barge hull and to evaluate the design feasibility based on ship classification standards. The research was conducted using the Finite Element Method (FEM) with the assistance of ANSYS Static Structural software. The stanchion structural model was subjected to loading according to the vessel's operational conditions and subsequently analyzed based on the parameters of Equivalent Stress (Von Mises Stress), Equivalent Elastic Strain, Total Deformation, and Safety factor. The simulation results indicate that reducing the stanchion dimension to 200 mm decreased the maximum Stress from 178.29 MPa to 153.06 MPa, representing a reduction of 16.48%, while remaining below the structural steel yield strength of 235 MPa. The maximum Deformation decreased from 1.2775 mm to 1.2043 mm, and the Safety factor decreased from 1.40 to 1.28. Although reductions were observed in Stress, Strain, Deformation, and the Safety factor, all parameters remained within the allowable limits in accordance with the ship structural design criteria. Therefore, the use of a 200 mm stanchion is considered feasible because it can reduce the structural weight without significantly compromising structural safety. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for optimizing ship structural designs that are more efficient, economical, and compliant with safety requirements.
