Abstract

Single-phase induction motors are widely used in household appliances and smallscale industries. During operation, changes in load conditions can cause variations in motor current, which may affect the stability and performance of the motor. Therefore, a control system is needed to regulate the motor current so that it remains close to the desired value. This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of Fuzzy and Fuzzy Proportional Integral (PI) controllers for current control of a single-phase induction motor based on Matlab/Simulink. The motor model was first developed as a continuous transfer function and then converted into a discrete model using the Zero Order Hold (ZOH) method. Furthermore, Fuzzy and Fuzzy PI controllers were designed using error and delta error as controller inputs. The system was tested through Matlab/Simulink simulations using setpoint, delay time, rise time, and settling time as the analysis parameters. The simulation results show that the Fuzzy controller uses a setpoint of 0.0527 A, with a delay time of 0.360 seconds and a rise time of 0.375 seconds. The Fuzzy PI controller uses a setpoint of 0.03518 A, with a delay time of 0.340 seconds and a rise time of 0.379 seconds. The 2% and 5% settling time limits for the Fuzzy controller are 0.0517 A and 0.0501 A, respectively, while those for the Fuzzy PI controller are 0.0345 A and 0.0334 A, respectively. The results indicate that both methods are capable of responding to the setpoint and reaching the stability region based on the predetermined tolerance limits.
