Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of the position and opening area of the air inlet on temperature distribution and thermal conditions inside a tropical greenhouse using a natural ventilation system based on the natural convection mechanism. The study was conducted experimentally using three air inlet configurations, namely V1 located at the bottom with an opening area of 0.02 m², V2 located in the middle with an opening area of 0.04 m², and V3 located at the top with an opening area of 0.06 m². Measurements were conducted at 12 sensor points, with the measured parameters including air temperature, relative humidity (RH), and air velocity. Data collection was carried out periodically from 08:00 to 16:00 WIB at 20-minute intervals for 28 days. The results showed that the ventilation configurations produced differences in the thermal conditions inside the greenhouse. V1 resulted in an average temperature of 35.84°C, RH of 69%, and air velocity of 0.22 m/s. V2 resulted in an average temperature of 34.72°C, RH of 73%, and air velocity of 0.34 m/s. Meanwhile, V3 produced the lowest average temperature of 33.89°C, RH of 76%, and the highest air velocity of 0.47 m/s. Compared with V1, V3 reduced the average temperature by 1.95°C and increased air velocity by 0.25 m/s. Therefore, V3 provided the best thermal condition based on the combination of average temperature and air velocity.
