Abstract

Technological advancements in the industry have driven the need for faster, more accurate, and more efficient work systems, particularly in product quality inspection processes. One such critical process is cable inspection, which is still largely performed manually and has inherent limitations, such as reliance on operators, relatively long inspection times, and the potential for human error. This research aims to design and implement an automated cable inspection tool based on the Keyence KV-40DT Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and to analyze performance improvements compared to manual methods. The developed system features multi-channel inspection capabilities, enabling it to examine various types of cables during the testing process. This capability enhances inspection speed, work efficiency, and the consistency of test results. The methodology employed involved quantitative experiments through direct testing at PT Patlite Indonesia. The analyzed parameters included productivity, efficiency, and operating rate. The research results show that the automated system is capable of inspectingcables quickly and accurately, including detecting open circuit and short circuit conditions on each tested channel. The average efficiency of the manual method was 87.08%, while the automated method reached 99,39%, representing an efficiency improvement of 14,14%. Additionally, the automated system also demonstrated an operating rate stability above 98%. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Keyence KV-40DT PLC-based automated cable inspection system with multi-channel capability is able to improve efficiency, productivity, testing speed, and the consistency of the inspection process compared to the manual method.
