Abstract

The increasing production of sago has resulted in a growing amount of sago bark waste, which has not been utilized optimally and has the potential to cause environmental pollution. One effort to increase the value of this waste is by processing it into laminated beams as an environmentally friendly alternative construction material. The quality of laminated beams is influenced by several factors, one of which is the pressing pressure, which plays an important role in improving the bonding quality between layers during the lamination process. This study aims to analyze the effect of pressing pressure variations on the physical and mechanical properties of laminated sago bark waste using Polyurethane (PU) Presto adhesive. The research employs an experimental laboratory method by producing laminated beams consisting of ten layers of sago bark arranged in a cross-lamination configuration. The pressing pressure variations applied were 0.4 MPa, 0.6 MPa, and 0.8 MPa. The physical property tests include moisture content and density, while the mechanical property tests include compressive strength, tensile strength, shear strength, and bending strength in accordance with the applicable testing standards. The results of this study are expected to reveal the effect of pressing pressure variations on the quality of laminated sago bark waste and to determine the optimum pressing pressure that provides the best physical and mechanical properties. Furthermore, this research is expected to provide an alternative utilization of sago bark waste as an economical and environmentally friendly construction material.
