Abstract

The maintenance and operation of distribution substations are crucial factors in ensuring the proper performance of the electrical distribution system. Distribution substations play a vital role in distributing electrical power from the main substation to end-users. Maintenance activities involve a series of routine inspections, cleaning, the replacement of damaged components, routine testing and servicing, and periodic condition monitoring. Routine inspections are conducted to detect potential damage or wear in substation components. Cleaning is performed to remove dirt and vegetation adhering to components, which could otherwise impair system performance. Replacing damaged components or those that have exceeded their service life is essential for maintaining the substation's operational integrity. Routine testing and servicing ensure optimal component performance, while condition monitoring aids in detecting system issues. Substation operation involves controlling the energizing and de-energizing of the substation in response to consumer demand. Rapid and efficient fault handling is critical for restoring the power supply as quickly as possible. Periodic monitoring of conditions and network loads helps optimize power usage and prevent overloading.
