Abstract
Sago bark waste from sago mills in Kepulauan Meranti Regency, Riau Province, remains structurally underutilized. This study addresses the physical and mechanical properties of sago bark waste as a laminated beam material, and the effect of bolt-dowel spacing on flexural strength. The objective is to determine the physical properties, mechanical properties, and effect of spacing variation (without dowel, 10 cm, 15 cm) on Modulus of Rupture (MoR) and Modulus of Elasticity (MoE).This study provides scientific data on sago bark waste as an eco-friendly alternative material for sago-producing regions. Beams were produced through staged bonding using a two-component epoxy adhesive (E-Floor) under pressing, reinforced with a 5 mm bolt dowel, tested per SNI standards and ASTM D5764. Results showed moisture content of 14.97%, basic specific gravity of 2.90 g/cm³, density of 4.83 g/cm³, compressive strength of 18.82 MPa, tensile strength of 135.67
MPa, shear strength of 1.46 MPa, and bearing strength of 53.24 MPa. The 10 cm spacing produced the highest MoR (66.24 MPa, +56.26%), while 15 cm produced the lowest (25.00 MPa, −41.02%). All MoE values fell into Class V (Very Low),
classifying the beam as non-structural, though still potential, with 10 cm as optimal.
