Abstract

This study aims to modify a Robin engine by adding a forward–neutral–reverse transmission system to improve the maneuverability of small boats. The research was conducted through the stages of design, manufacturing, assembly, and performance testing of the transmission system using a Robin EX200 engine with a displacement of 196 cc, a maximum power of 6 HP at 3,600 rpm, a maximum torque of 13.2 N·m at 2,500 rpm, a 3.1-liter fuel tank capacity, and a total engine weight of 16 kg. Performance testing was carried out using a GPS-based application with loading conditions of 3, 4, and 5 passengers. The test results showed that the boat achieved a maximum forward speed of 6.88 knots with 3 passengers, while the speed decreased to 6.05 knots with 5 passengers. During reverse maneuver testing, the boat reached a speed of 2.92 knots (5.41 km/h) with 4 passengers and 2.37 knots (4.39 km/h) with 5 passengers. Throughout the testing process, the transmission system operated properly in the forward, neutral, and reverse positions without slip, impact, or mechanical failure, ensuring stable power transmission from the engine to the Propeller. The results indicate that the modified transmission system successfully improves the maneuverability of small boats while providing a practical, economical, and reliable propulsion solution.
