Abstract
he use of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) wiremesh as an alternative to steel reinforcement in concrete slabs requires further investigation of flexural capacity, deflection, and cracking patterns. This study compares the flexural behavior of normal-strength concrete slabs reinforced with GFRP-D6 and steel wiremesh D6, D8, and D10 under the same loading condition. The objective was to determine differences in flexural capacity, deflection, and cracking patterns. An experimental method was conducted on 28-day-old concrete slabs subjected to twopoint loading. The results showed that the GFRP-D6 slab reached a maximum load of 41.50 kN, a maximum converted flexural moment of 8.30 kN·m, and a maximum deflection of 25.65 mm. The maximum loads of the steel D6, D8, and D10 slabs were 27.48 kN, 36.87 kN, and 56.25 kN, respectively. Cracking developed in the flexural region as the applied load increased. Under the tested configurations, GFRP-D6 achieved a higher maximum load than steel D6 and D8, but lower than steel D10.
