Abstract

Peat soil has low bearing capacity and is highly susceptible to deformation, making the selection of an appropriate foundation system, such as helical mini piles, essential. One of the factors affecting pile performance is the installation duration. This study aims to investigate the effect of installation duration on the pull-out capacity and deformation behavior of helical mini piles in peat soil. The elapsed time after pile installation influences the bearing capacity and settlement characteristics of helical mini piles in both peat and clay soils. The research was conducted experimentally at a depth of 2 m using pile ages of 1, 7, 14, and 28 days. The pile performance was evaluated through the Static Loading Test (SLT). The test results showed that after 28 days, the concrete pile installed in clay soil was able to sustain a maximum load of 930 kg with a settlement of 6.98 cm before failure occurred at 950 kg. In peat soil, the concrete pile sustained a maximum load of 610 kg with a settlement of 1.96 cm before failure at 630 kg, while the timber pile failed at a load of 290 kg. The findings indicate that the longer the helical mini pile remains embedded in the ground after installation, the greater its bearing capacity and the better its settlement performance. Furthermore, a strong positive correlation was observed between the elapsed time after installation and the increase in the bearing capacity of helical mini piles in both peat and clay soils.
