Abstract
Drainage systems play an important role in controlling excess water in residential areas and reducing the risk of waterlogging and flooding. Rimbas Sekampung Urban Village, Bengkalis District, still experiences waterlogging, particularly during periods of high rainfall. This condition indicates that the existing drainage network needs evaluation to determine its ability to convey runoff effectively. This study aims to evaluate the capacity and effectiveness of the drainage system in Rimbas Sekampung using hydrological and hydraulic analyses. A quantitative approach was applied using rainfall data, field measurements of channel dimensions and physical conditions, and elevation data. GeoTracker was used to record observation points, while a leveling instrument was used to measure channel elevations. Design discharge was estimated using the Rational Method, and existing channel capacity was calculated using Manning’s equation. The drainage network and flow direction were then mapped using ArcGIS to provide an overview of the system. The results indicate that several existing channels do not have sufficient capacity to convey the design discharge, resulting in waterlogging at several residential areas and road sections. The channels at Gang Cakra and the left side of Gang Budiman D have very small bed slopes, with some sections tending to have negative slopes. Such conditions can reduce flow velocity and increase the potential for backwater. Drainage performance is also affected by sediment accumulation, household waste, and tidal conditions in the coastal area. Therefore, channel normalization, adjustment of channel dimensions and slopes, and routine maintenance are required to improve overall performance and reduce recurring waterlogging.
