Abstract

Electrical energy can be said to be energy that is needed by humans, because most of the equipment used to support daily activities, uses electrical energy as a driving force. The current electricity crisis is still an important issue for the government, especially in Riau. Because the state electricity company (PLN), until now has not reached the electricity needs of the community. One of the efforts to build a power plant is by using renewable energy such as wind power, sea current power plants, and micro hydro power plants (PLTMH). As a new alternative energy source for the community, PLTMH is used as a source of energy for electricity generation that is inexpensive and does not damage the surrounding environment. In the MHP type of turbine used there are several types of turbines. namely Pelton turbine, Crossflow turbine, Francis turbine and Kaplan turbine. The author uses the Kaplan turbine type, this study aims to implement the prototype PLTMH by utilizing the swift river flow. River water flow is dammed to get a certain water velocity, so it can move turbines and voltage generators produced by AC voltage generators and rectified into DC voltages. This DC voltage is used to supply DC power loads. The results of the study, the generator voltage is 6.89 V, the maximum current is 0.02 A, and the power generated is 0.137 VA.
