Abstract

Distillation is a technique of separating mixtures based on differences in boiling points. This research compares two distillation devices, one that uses bamboo completely, and one that uses a combination of PVC and bamboo. Both devices were analyzed with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using SolidWorks Flow Simulation. CFD simulates fluid flow and heat transfer based on physical equations. Effectiveness refers to the ratio between the actual heat transfer rate and the maximum possible heat transfer rate. The simulation results show that the full bamboo device has a better effectiveness of 80,99% compared to the combination of PVC and bamboo which is only 73,15%.
