Abstract

Metal casting is a manufacturing process that uses molten metal and molds to produce shapes that approximate the final geometric shape of the finished product. In general, industries or small and medium businesses in the metal casting sector, especially the manufacture of piston heads from recycled aluminum material, use simple technology, namely sand casting. The purpose of this design is to design and modify the metal mold to prevent product defects from the sand mold and produce a piston head product that matches the dimensions of the final product and complies with the design specifications. The methods used include literature study, tool design using Solidworks software, 3D pattern making, sand mold making, metal melting, and machining processes such as drilling and turning. The results of the research show that the designed semi-permanent molding tool produces a much smoother surface, and the defects in the castings are also smaller and the castings from the mold correspond to the size and dimensions of the final product, namely having a diameter of 36 mm and a height of 32 mm outside the distance. casting tolerance.
