Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of waterlogging on the damage to asphalt pavement of the Asphalt Concrete – Binder Course (AC-BC) type, which commonly occurs in areas with high rainfall and poor drainage systems. Waterlogging can weaken the bond between aggregates and asphalt, thereby accelerating damage such as cracking, potholes, and surface peeling. In this study,Marshall testing was conducted with varying immersion times of the specimens, namely for 1 day,
7 days, and 30 days, to simulate road conditions exposed to standing water. The samples were tested at the Highway Laboratory of the State Polytechnic of Bengkalis with a total of 39 specimens. The results showed that after 30 days of immersion, the performance decreased, with Stability values dropping from 1832.83 kg to 1588.32 kg and Marshall Quotient (MQ) values from 914.83 kg/mm to 601.54 kg/mm, although both remained above the minimum limit, indicating that the mixture’s strength was still sufficient. Flow values increased from 2.00 mm to 2.67 mm, and VMA values from 16.23% to 17.40% also remained within specifications, indicating that deformation was not yet critical. VFWA values decreased from 73.82% to 66.10%, still meeting the requirements despite the decline. This indicates that no significant structural damage occurred during the immersion period.
