Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the effect of using Viscoflow 3660 LR additives that have passed their expiration date on the quality of concrete with a target compressive strength of f'c 25 MPa, where this additive is a type of superplasticizer commonly used to improve the workability and performance of concrete. The study was conducted using variations in the dosage reduction of expired additives by 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the standard dosage of 0.3%, with slump tests and compressive strength at the ages of 3, 7, 14, and 28 days. The results of the slump test showed that the higher the percentage of additive reduction, the concrete slump value decreased from 16.6 cm (control 0% reduction) to only 6.8 cm at 100% reduction, which indicates a decrease in workability. Meanwhile, the average compressive strength test results at 28 days showed a gradual decrease from 28.47 MPa (0% decrease) to 20.16 MPa (100% decrease), but concrete with a 25% and 50% dose reduction was still able to achieve compressive strength close to the design quality. From these results, it can be concluded that the use of expired Viscoflow 3660 LR can still be considered in limited doses (maximum 50%) without causing a significant decrease in concrete quality, thus providing potential additive efficiency in construction practices that still comply with concrete strength and quality standards.
