Abstract

This study analyzes the performance of Soekarno-Hatta Road in Pekanbaru City due to the development of the Gand Permata Residential Area, using the Indonesian Highway Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023 method. The current road condition is classified as good, with a Degree of Saturation (DS) of 0.43, corresponding to Level of Service (LOS) B, where vehicle speeds are still well-controlled. However, projections for the next 5 to 10 years indicate an increase in DS to 0.64 (LOS C), indicating limited driver speed options and decreasing service levels. To address this, a geometric road widening model was proposed by reducing the median width from 2 meters to 1 meter. The simulation results show a reduced DS to 0.44 in 5 years and 0.54 in 10 years, both within LOS C and indicating stable traffic flow. These findings suggest that optimizing the road geometry through median reduction is an effective strategy to maintain long-term road performance and accommodate future traffic growth.
