The purpose of this study is to determine the obstacles to the use of oil booms, the impacts caused by the lack of optimal oil booms, and efforts to optimize the use of oil booms as a means of preventing pollution during the loading and unloading of tankers by PT. Urban Shipping Agency.
This type of research is a descriptive qualitative study with data collection methods including observation interviews and documentation studies. The results of this study are: 1) The use of oil booms still faces several obstacles including lack of supervision of the physical condition of the oil boom, imperfect installation (not surrounding the entire area of the ship), and the potential for disruption to the function of the oil boom due to ocean currents or getting caught on parts of the ship such as the propeller or rudder. 2) Inefficiency has a direct impact on marine environmental pollution due to oil spills that can harm marine ecosystems, potential violations of environmental regulations and threaten the company's image in the eyes of port authorities and the public. 3)
Efforts to overcome the suboptimal use of oil booms include conducting routine inspections of the condition of the oil boom, providing training to officers related to technical installation according to standards, ensuring storage and maintenance of the oil boom, preparing SOPs and periodic
evaluations of the effectiveness of the tools and procedures used.
