Abstract
Road pavement is a vital infrastructure that requires optimal performance. Asphalt concrete mixture (AC-WC) is one type of mixture commonly used for pavement surface layers. The quality and durability of the pavement are greatly influenced by the compaction process. Compaction temperature is one of the critical parameters that can affect the Marshall characteristics and performance of the asphalt mixture. Inappropriate variations in compaction temperature can cause suboptimal compaction, which impacts the stability, flow, VIM (Void in Mix), VMA (Void in Mineral Aggregate), and VFB (Void Filled with Bitumen) of the mixture. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in compaction temperature on the Marshall characteristics
of the AC-WC mixture. The research method used is an experimental one in the laboratory. The AC WC mixture will be made with a standard material composition, and then compacted at various predetermined temperature variations. The results of the study showed that the Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) used was 5.5%, this OAC was used to make test specimens with temperature variations using variations of 160°C, 150°C, 135°C, 115°C, 95°C, 85°C, and 80°C. From the test results, the most effective variation used as compaction was the 115°C variation because its overall characteristics met the specifications with Stability values = 2056.37 kg, VITM = 4.90%, VMA = 17.11%, VFWA = 71.68%, Flow = 2.5 mm, MQ = 836.22 kg, and Density = 2.28.
