Abstract

The pulp heating process is an important stage in the paper processing industry, which affects the efficiency and quality of the final product. Conventional heating methods are often inefficient and require high energy consumption. Therefore, this research designed and built an induction heating system based on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) The system consists of key components such as a helical coil, a K-type thermocouple temperature sensor, and a PLC control unit. The induction heater works by generating an alternating magnetic field that triggers an eddy current in the heating tank, generating direct and even heat. The test results showed that the system was able to raise the pulp temperature from 32.5°C to 70.2°C in 1 hour and 40 minutes using 1,000 watts of power. Calculation analysis showed a fairly good heating efficiency, with an average temperature change per 1.9°C interval and a measurement error of less than 0.2% between the temperature sensor and the comparator (thermogun). The application of PLC control is able to maintain temperature stability, reduce temperature fluctuations, and improve energy efficiency. This system is expected to be an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative solution for heating processes in the pulp and paper industry.
