Abstract

Concrete durability is defined as the ability of concrete to withstand environmental influences and the passage of time without experiencing significant damage during its service life. This study aims to analyze the durability of concrete in aggressive environments such as seawater by using waste materials as a partial substitute for cement. The waste used is Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) stabilized with 7.5% blood clam shell powder. The use of this waste aims to reduce
CO₂ emissions from cement production and to promote the sustainable utilization of industrial and marine waste. Testing was carried out on normal concrete and concrete with a 7.5% substitution, with parameters including compressive strength, weight change, and abrasion resistance using the
water blasting method. The results showed that the concrete with the SBE and clam shell mixture had better performance than normal concrete. Weight loss due to abrasion was only 1.78%, lower than the 4.27% found in normal concrete. The compressive strength of the substituted concrete was also higher, reaching 27.4 MPa at 28 days and 31.6 MPa at 56 days. Additionally, the use of these waste materials reduced weight change, resulting in greater stability in aggressive environments. Therefore, the combination of SBE and clam shell waste has been proven to improve concrete durability and serve as an environmentally friendly alternative for partial cement replacement.
