Abstract

The maritime economy encompasses economic activities in coastal and marine areas, such as the shipbuilding industry, ports, and marine tourism. Prapat Tunggal Village has a large population working in the fishing and marine product sectors. This study aims to determine the impact of maritime economic development on the welfare of coastal fishermen, the obstacles faced, and efforts to improve the maritime economy. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on research findings, the development of the maritime economy in the fishing and seafood processing sectors has contributed to improving the welfare of fishermen, although the main obstacles remain limited, including limited business capital, limited facilities and infrastructure, lack of skills and training, market access, and dependence on the seasons. Efforts to improve fishermen's welfare include providing business capital, infrastructure, training, expanding market access, and business diversification. With government support and community participation, maritime economic development can be directed sustainably to improve the welfare of coastal fishermen.
