Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of heat treatment on the hardness of the blades used in waste shredding machines at the Environmental Service of Bengkalis Regency. Heat treatment was conducted at 800°C with variations in cooli bekas ng methods: no treatment, Carbon addition (pack carburizing with coconut shell charcoal), rapid cooli bekas ng with oil, and rapid cooli bekas ng with saltwater. Hardness testing was performed using the Rockwell method with C scale. The test results indicate that the treatment with saltwater cooli bekas ng yielded the highest hardness increase of 5.36% compared to untreated samples, while Carbon addition decreased hardness by 14.5%. ANOVA statistical analysis showed significant differences among treatments on blade hardness. Therefore, appropriate heat treatment can improve the mechanical properties of blades used in waste shredders.
